11 Ways to Maximize a Small Living Space
Not everyone lives in a huge house. And not everyone wants to! Here are some ideas for maximizing the space that you have.
Storage spaces up high: Use shelves, cabinets, or even pet nets to add more storage up high. You can also use tension rods to give yourself something to hang things on.
Storage spaces down low: Don’t forget about low-to-the-ground storage. Don't be afraid to think outside the box here - there is a lot that can be done with a plain old storage tub with a lid, decorative paper boxes, storage ottomans, and more. And don't forget about any cabinets you may have.
Seating low to ground: Low seating can be stored easily and saves space. It's also fashionable and in style right now!
Curtains or barn doors to slide open/closed: Change the room around with curtains or a barn door. For curtains, you can use a tension rod (mentioned earlier) just about anywhere one will fit, and there is very little skill and no tool usage required.
Mirrors: Mirrors reflect light and make the whole space look bigger. Depending on your style preference and space, you can find just about any kind of mirror you want.
Wall-mounted television: Don’t bother with an entertainment stand; mount that TV to the wall!
Stackable appliances: A tiny washer and dryer that stack let you do laundry and save space. Smaller dishwashers are also available.
Natural light/windows: Natural light also makes your space look bigger; skylights are perfect for this. Try using mirrors, mentioned above, to reflect the light and open your space up.
Neutral colors: Too much color can make a room feel crowded. Darker colors, while fashionable, can make rooms feel smaller and stuffy. Go neutral to maximize space.
Fold-out desks or dining sets: If you’re not using it, can you stash it? Invest in foldable furniture, such as Murphy beds, convertible coffee tables, and others.
Outdoor relaxation areas: Fix up the great outdoors for another place to sprawl out and relax. Even just a couple of lawn chairs and some string lights can go a long way!
